Huawei Mate 80 Achieves New Heights Amid Growing Competition

Sales of the Huawei Mate 80 series have reached approximately 754,900 units, although just as of December 9, the sales figures were half that number. The new release is currently surpassed only by the Xiaomi 17 series and is roughly on par with the Redmi K90 series, although the Mate 80 was launched later than these devices. Driven by the strong sales numbers for the Mate 80 series, Huawei’s market share has significantly increased over the past two weeks, securing the company the top spot in the Chinese market for the second week in a row. According to the latest data from research firm BCI, Huawei maintained a leading position in the Chinese smartphone market during the 48th and 49th weeks of 2025, with a market share of 27.81% and 22.89% respectively, ahead of major competitors like Apple.

An analysis reveals that Huawei has successfully regained a leadership position in its home market due to improvements in chip production yields, the maturity of its HarmonyOS operating system, and a more competitive pricing strategy. Currently, the Mate 80 Pro Max is being resold by scalpers for approximately $220 above the recommended price, remaining in shortage, and this situation is likely to persist for some time. With continuous scaling up of production capabilities and increasing positive reviews, it is expected that the sales volume of the Mate 80 series will reach 2 million units in the first quarter of 2026.

Looking forward, Huawei is expected to continue its upward trajectory, bolstered by new advances in its 5G technology and artificial intelligence capabilities. Their partnerships with leading tech firms and a focus on sustainable technology innovations are seen as key differentiators. Industry experts forecast that the growing preference for localized operating systems and innovative features will further propel Huawei’s market presence, especially as they also push into emerging markets with robust demand for advanced technology solutions.
