Honda Accord: Unyielding Companion Across the Million-Mile Mark

GAC Honda’s Landmark Endurance Test

GAC Honda has announced the completion of a unique endurance test: the sixth-generation Accord successfully passed the industry’s first 24-hour endurance test for a car with a mileage of 1 million kilometers (GAC Honda clarified that the vehicle’s actual mileage at the time of testing was 978,294 km, which was conditionally designated as “one million kilometers”). During the test, the vehicle traveled 2,181 km without a single failure or malfunction, reaching a top speed of 145 km/h (90 mph) with an average fuel consumption of 8.09 liters per 100 km (29 mpg).

According to the company, the vehicle used in the test was a real car owned by a private owner, which only underwent routine maintenance and replaced consumables throughout its operation. No structural modifications were made. Before the test began, the car underwent a comprehensive inspection, which showed that all key components were in factory condition and fully functional. The VTEC engine showed no signs of coking or increased oil consumption, the suspension bushings had no cracks, and all electronic control system sensors functioned normally.

A Glimpse Back: Honda Accord Sixth Generation

The sixth-generation Honda Accord (factory index CG) debuted in August 1997. In 1999, the model was launched into production at the GAC Honda plant. The car was equipped with a 2.3-liter VTEC engine, a five-link independent rear suspension, and a software-controlled fuel injection system.

Recent Developments and Industry Standpoint

Honda continuously invests in promoting vehicle durability through engineering advancements. Recently, the company has started integrating more robust testing methods that simulate real-world conditions more closely, ensuring their vehicles’ endurance.

“Our priority is to craft vehicles that drivers can rely on regardless of the mileage. High-mileage performance is not just an accolade for our cars but a testament to Honda’s commitment to resilience and reliability,” stated a Honda spokesperson at a recent auto industry panel.
