GreyNoise Takes Smart Aim at IP Tracking: Harmless or Alarming?

GreyNoise Labs has launched a free service called GreyNoise IP Check, which allows users to verify if their IP address has been detected in malicious scanning operations such as botnets and residential proxy networks.

Simply visit the website check.labs.greynoise.io, and it will automatically scan the data and provide results. Over the past year, home proxy networks have rapidly evolved, turning home internet connections into exit points for foreign traffic.

Generally, one can receive one of three response types from the system:

  • All clear
  • Business service: The IP address corresponds to a VPN, corporate network, or cloud provider, and scanning activity is normal for these environments
  • Malicious/Suspicious: The IP address shows signs of scanning. Users should check devices in their network
