Analysts from Jon Peddie Research have evaluated the GPU market following the third quarter, noting a stable quarter-on-quarter performance but a notable change year-over-year.
By the end of the last quarter, Intel continues to lead the overall GPU market, which includes integrated graphics within processors, commanding a robust 61% market share. Nvidia holds 24%, and AMD takes on 15%. A year ago, AMD’s share was a bit higher at 17%, while Intel’s and Nvidia’s shares underwent significant changes: Intel’s decreased by 4%, whereas Nvidia’s climbed by 6%.
The global GPU shipments, including integrated and discrete units, increased moderately, reaching 76.6 million units-a 4% growth. Notably, discrete GPU shipments rose by 10.7%, showing stronger demand, particularly among gamers and creatives. Meanwhile, CPU shipments for PCs increased to 65 million units.
This growth rate signifies a positive trend in the discrete GPU segment, even as demand for laptop-integrated GPUs increased by a marginal 1.4%. In terms of CPUs, the market composition remains unchanged from a year ago, with mobile (laptop) processors making up 70% of the units shipped, while desktop CPUs account for the remaining 30%.
