GPMI Interface: A New Era of Connectivity Unveiled

In China, the official industry standard for the General Purpose Media Interface (GPMI) has been approved and published, following its introduction last year. The GPMI standard series covers several critically important areas, including the physical interface layer, data transmission protocols, power supply, security, and device compatibility. The GPMI is an entirely Chinese development and surpasses USB-C and HDMI in several parameters, including bandwidth, power capabilities, and high-resolution support.

The GPMI interface delivers up to 192 Gbps bandwidth, power transmission reaching 480 watts, and video signal support up to 8K at 120 frames per second. All data, power, and audio/video signals are transmitted through a single cable. This solution is designed not only for TVs, monitors, and gaming consoles but also for smart home scenarios, virtual reality, and cloud computing. Over 90 companies participated in developing the standard, including Huawei, Skyworth, and Hisense.

Recently, there has been a growing interest in the GPMI interface, particularly for its potential in revolutionizing smart device connectivity. Experts highlight its superior bandwidth and power delivery, which could set a new benchmark in the tech industry. Comparatively, GPMI’s capability of transferring both high power and data simultaneously on a single cable provides a compelling advantage over traditional interfaces. As consumer electronics evolve, the demand for interfaces like GPMI that offer comprehensive solutions is expected to grow, paving the way for its widespread adoption.
