Smartphones Google Pixel 10 unexpectedly became more performant after a recent Android update. It’s quite noticeably more performant. Authors at Android Authority retested the Pixel 10 Pro XL and found a 5% increase in Geekbench. This is clearly not a margin of error, but still an insignificant change. However, tests in PCMark Work 3.0 showed a different picture: an increase of 19.6%. Unlike many others, this benchmark simulates everyday tasks such as browsing web pages and editing images, making it a more accurate reflection of real-world usage. Here, a 20% increase is a very noticeable change.
Results in 3DMark Wild Life also rose by 5-7%, which is noticeable but not critical. According to the source, the increase may be due to deeper optimization in Android 16, which introduces a more advanced and efficient garbage collection mechanism in memory. This reduces CPU load, minimizes lag, and increases overall smoothness. Moreover, older Pixel models also seem to be performing better according to comments online.
Such tangible performance gains, particularly in PCMark Work 3.0, where we’re seeing close to a 20% increase, could significantly impact consumer choices. As these changes reflect real-world usage improvements, they have the potential to make the Pixel 10 more attractive to both existing and new users.
Comparing with other manufacturers, companies like Samsung and OnePlus have also prioritized software optimizations in their recent models, often focusing on unique feature offerings or exclusive software-based improvements. However, with Google’s optimization in Android 16 for the Pixel 10, the competition might find it challenging as these enhancements seem more closely integrated with practical performance metrics.
