Google Meet Expands Real-Time Translation: A Move to Capture Mobile Users Amidst Multilingual Challenges

Google announced the forthcoming expansion of its real-time translation capabilities for the Google Meet video conferencing service – now bringing support to mobile devices. Previously, this feature was available only on computers and to a limited circle of corporate users. In the coming months, it will become accessible on Android and iOS devices, as well as to a broader number of users on PCs.

However, there are restrictions: translation will remain available only to Workspace users from the business and education sectors, as well as subscribers of Google AI Pro and Ultra. These subscriptions cost $20 and $250 per month, respectively. Additionally, Workspace users will be granted access to enhanced translation usage limits for 60 days, after which daily restrictions will be implemented, though specifics have yet to be disclosed.

Google Meet has been updating its features to compete with other video conferencing tools such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams. Real-time translation, now expanding to mobile devices, is a key feature aiming to enhance accessibility and inclusivity within multinational meetings and educational environments.
