Giant Motorola V70 Becomes Symbol of Technological Nostalgia

An almost two-meter Motorola V70, installed at the entrance of the mobile phone museum in China’s Huaqiangbei, has drawn the attention of many. In videos that have spread across social media, visitors are seen lining up to take photos with the massive clamshell phone. The museum owner, Mr. Yan, claims it’s not a model but the world’s only oversized V70 capable of making calls. The original Motorola V70 was released in 2002, grabbing attention with its distinctive swivel cover. At the time, the device cost $1200 in China.

According to the owner, creating the giant version took over six months, with each key being functional, and the device operates like a real phone. “People who couldn’t afford the V70 back then can now bring their children to appreciate this ‘enlarged dream version.’ Perhaps this is the most romantic form of technological nostalgia,” stated the owner. Yan’s collection over the years included more than a thousand mobile devices-from pagers to classic Nokia, Samsung, and Motorola models. This passion led him to open the museum, which launched in spring.

Recently, the museum has expanded to include interactive displays and events highlighting mobile technology’s history. With the rapid advancement in technology, nostalgic exhibits like these are gaining popularity, bringing back cherished memories and fascinating new generations with the legacy of mobile innovation.
