Geely Automobile is steering ahead with three core technological arenas in the solid-state battery field, employing polymer (organic), sulfide, and halide (inorganic) composite solutions to meet diverse market needs. Alongside this, Geely has engineered specialized high-nickel ternary cathode materials for solid-state batteries and composite electrolytes with fire-resistant and self-extinguishing characteristics. They’ve also innovated a lithium dendrite recovery technology.
Regarding application plans, Shen Yuan, Senior Vice President and CTO of Geely Holdings, revealed that Geely’s short-term objective is to complete the launch of car prototypes by 2026.
By 2027, Geely aims to reach small-scale industrialization of solid-state batteries by introducing 1,000 demonstration vehicles. The long-term goal is to complete the industrial production of solid-state batteries by 2030, followed by mass production for high-end models.
When achieved, Geely’s solid-state battery energy density is expected to exceed 500 Wh/kg. The component cost is projected to be controlled within approximately $0.09 per Wh, a rate that is accounted as competitive in the market, where other companies strive for similar cost-efficiency.
