The Chinese automotive giant Geely Auto Group has inaugurated its Safety Center in Hangzhou Bay, Zhejiang Province, China. This is the world’s largest automotive safety testing facility, setting five new Guinness World Records. The complex expands traditional safety concepts to encompass comprehensive testing capabilities not only for physical collision protection but also in emerging fields such as cybersecurity, data protection, and health safeguard. This reflects Geely’s concept of “Comprehensive Safety 2.0,” aiming for “zero casualties, zero health threats, zero property loss, and zero confidential information leaks.”
During the opening ceremony, Geely conducted a crash test featuring two Lynk & Co 900 cars. The Center houses several specialized laboratories, including labs for driver assistance system verification, pedestrian protection testing, and automotive network safety testing.
World Records in Automotive Safety Testing
The Safety Center has set five world records, including the largest automotive safety laboratory (81,930.745 m2), the longest indoor crash test track (293.39 meters), the largest variable height and climate automotive testing wind tunnel (28,536.224 m2), the largest crash testing area with arbitrary angle testing (0-180°) (12,709.293 m2), and the most diverse testing capabilities (27 types) available at an automotive manufacturer’s safety facility.
Open to the Industry
According to Geely, the Safety Center will be open to the entire automotive industry to enhance safety standards across the sector. Given recent advancements in electric vehicle (EV) technology and autonomous driving, the availability of such an advanced facility fosters innovation and poses competitive pressure on global automakers. By integrating cybersecurity and health safety into its testing, Geely aligns with technological trends and anticipates regulatory demands.
Furthermore, collaborations with international firms keen on leveraging comprehensive testing scenarios could accelerate safety innovations globally.
