Geely Galaxy Cruiser Aims to Outshine Land Rover and Mercedes-Benz in the UK Market

Geely has confirmed plans to introduce the Galaxy Cruiser SUV to the UK market. This revelation was made to Autocar by Yan Tianxiao, Geely Auto UK’s marketing director. The model is positioned as a competitor to the Land Rover Defender and the Mercedes-Benz G-Class. The Geely Galaxy Cruiser was first unveiled as a concept at the Shanghai Auto Show last year. According to Flavien Dachet, director of Geely’s design studio, the vehicle is in the late stages of development and is close to mass production. Sales in China are expected to start by the end of this year, though specific export launch dates remain undisclosed.

The Galaxy Cruiser is built on the SEA-R platform, also used in the Zeekr 9X. A modified version of this architecture is also employed in the hybrid Lotus Eletre PHEV, with its official presentation anticipated soon. The concept is equipped with an independent active suspension with individual wheel control, steer-by-wire, and brake-by-wire systems, and can traverse water up to 800 mm deep. In the vehicle, intelligent driver assistance systems with artificial intelligence elements analyze the road situation and warn of potential risks without directly interfering with control. The production version of the Galaxy Cruiser is expected to receive a hybrid powertrain similar to that used in the Zeekr 9X and Lotus Eletre PHEV. It includes a 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine and electric motors, providing all-wheel drive. Preliminary data suggests that the electric range could reach 350 km (217 miles) according to the Chinese CLTC cycle when using a 70 kWh traction battery. Exact power figures are not disclosed, but there are references: 1381 hp for the Zeekr 9X and an expected 912 hp for the Lotus Eletre PHEV.
