Galaxy S25 Edge Teardown: Ultra-Thin Design Insights

Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge: Dissecting the Ultra-Thin Marvel

YouTube blogger JerryRigEverything has released a captivating teardown video of the ultra-thin Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge, showcasing its engineering marvel. The device impressively shaves 2.4 mm off its thickness compared to the Galaxy S25 Ultra, offering a sleek design that doesn’t compromise on key features.

What Makes It Different?

While the Galaxy S25 Edge doesn’t match the S25 Ultra feature-for-feature, it intrigues with a similar price point and includes a 200MP camera sensor akin to Samsung’s flagship model. However, the S25 Edge uses a slightly smaller version of the ISOCELL HP2 sensor, illustrating the smart compromises made for the compact design.

To achieve its remarkable 5.8 mm thickness, developers scaled down the speakers, battery, cooling system, motherboard, and USB Type-C port. Notably, a titanium-reinforced frame acts as the USB-C port’s enclosure. The waterproofing now ingeniously sits at an angle within the chassis.

Smart Engineering and Compromises

A key contributor to the reduced thickness is the two-sided motherboard, significantly thinner than that of the S25 Ultra. However, battery capacity drops from 5000 mAh to 3900 mAh, a potential drawback for users. On the bright side, the battery remains easily replaceable, an advantage for long-term usability.

The cooling system also received an overhaul; the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite processor now directly interfaces with an evaporator chamber featuring abundant thermal paste, unlike the additional metal layer in the S25 Ultra. Despite the reduced thermal configuration, the teardown confirms excellent durability, likely due to the titanium-enhanced frame, which performed admirably in bend tests.
