GAC Aion i60: Compact But Electrically Charged Advancement

Introduction of the GAC Aion i60

GAC Aion has officially unveiled its new compact crossover, the i60, available with both a fully electric powertrain and an EREV version. The extended range version employs the proprietary Xingyuan system, capable of covering up to 210 km (130 miles) on electric power alone. This innovation reflects the trend towards integrating longer electric ranges in new models.

Impressive Range and Fuel Efficiency

The total driving range stands at 1240 kilometers (770 miles), a substantial figure in the current EV landscape. With a fuel consumption rate of 5.5 l/100 km (43 mpg), the hybrid efficiently balances electricity and fuel usage. The electric motor boasts a maximum power of 180 kW (241 horsepower), aligning with the industry’s push for more robust electric engines.

Fast Charging and Design Enhancements

Charging the battery from 30% to 80% only takes 15 minutes, emphasizing the advancements in rapid charging technology. The fully electric variant promises a driving range of up to 650 km (404 miles) based on the CLTC cycle.

The model sports a redesigned front, featuring sophisticated dual-level LED headlights, a luminous DRL stripe, and a central decorative element. In profile, the vehicle resembles the Aion V, though it surpasses it in length and a number of dimensions. The Aion i60 measures 4685 x 1854 x 1660 mm with a wheelbase of 2775 mm, extending 105 mm longer than the Aion V while maintaining a five-seat configuration.

Standard and Optional Features

Equipment includes semi-recessed door handles, mirrors with supplementary lighting, and wheels measuring 18 or 19 inches, depending on the selected configuration.

Price Range and Market Impact

The price of the model ranges from 109,800 to 135,800 yuan ($15,500 to $19,100). This pricing could potentially position the Aion i60 competitively within the market, offering advanced features at a relatively accessible price point, and marking a significant step in GAC’s strategy to capture a larger share of the electric vehicle market.
