The company AMD has finally fully introduced its suite of FSR Redstone technologies. These are software solutions for gamers, relying on machine learning, similar to the latest Nvidia DLSS solutions.
: FSR Frame Generation frame generator, FSR Ray Regeneration noise reduction algorithm for improving ray tracing quality, FSR Radiance Caching cache to reduce ray tracing costs in global illumination
. Naturally, this also includes the previously launched FSR 4 upscaler, which is already available for a number of games. Unfortunately, all new technologies, at least officially, will only be available for Radeon RX 9000 (and newer) graphics cards.
AMD promises that by the end of this year, we will have more than 200 games with FSR 4 and over 30 games with next-generation frame generator support
. Today, AMD is also releasing the corresponding SDK. In addition, the TechPowerUp resource has already tested the available technologies. FSR Redstone is a solid and very useful update for RX 9000 series GPU owners based on RDNA 4, especially where machine learning is used for frame generation and ray tracing cleanup.
The move to a fully machine-learning-based frame generation model finally puts AMD on par with NVIDIA in this area. In our tests, FSR Redstone ML frame generation consistently delivers image quality at least on par with DLSS, and in some scenes, it even looks better, especially in shadows and fast-moving objects. It’s a huge win for AMD, especially considering what the previous generation of FSR frame generation offered. Unfortunately, it seems FSR Redstone does not offer anything new for owners of older generation AMD graphics cards, despite the community’s hopes for the official release of a compatible version of FSR 4 ML scaling.
With 2025 nearing its end, there’s growing anticipation in the gaming community for AMD’s FSR Redstone technology. Many expect that its machine learning capabilities will set a new standard in graphics enhancement. Speculation is rife about how this may tip the balance in AMD’s favor against competitors like Nvidia. Industry insiders suggest that next year could be pivotal for gamers and developers as FSR Redstone finds broader application. Upcoming events and announcements are likely to shed further light on AMD’s plans.
