Images of mockups for new foldable smartphones by Apple and Samsung have surfaced online, revealing an unexpectedly strong resemblance between them. According to insider Ice Universe, both companies are developing devices with shorter and wider bodies, moving away from elongated formats in favor of practicality and convenience for everyday use.
This design approach suggests a more comfortable outer screen for typing and a wide inner display, better suited for reading and content viewing. When unfolded, both devices are said to feature a screen aspect ratio of 4:3, which brings them closer to compact tablets both visually and by feel. Oppo has previously attempted a similar concept with its Find N series.
According to leaks, the iPhone Fold will be equipped with a 7.58-inch internal display and a 5.35-inch external screen, while the Samsung Wide Fold will feature 7.6 and 5.4-inch panels respectively. The difference is minimal, and with similar dimensions and weight, the devices may feel almost identical in hand.
Ice Universe, known for accurately predicting trends such as waterfall screens, the iPhone X notch, the new design of iPhone 14, and Samsung’s 200-megapixel sensor, is confident about these developments. Exclusive information about such innovations is often leaked to him by sources within the South Korean giant’s research and development department.
In recent months, the demand for foldable smartphones has been steadily increasing. Analysts predict that this segment could see a growth spurts as technology becomes more robust and pricing strategies more competitive. Meanwhile, Oppo continues to innovate in this space, with their Find N series setting benchmarks in design and functionality, challenging larger players like Apple and Samsung.
