Company Fairphone, known for its smartphones with maximum repairability and extensive support lifespan, has introduced the updated Fairbuds XL headphones. This improved version of the model, released in 2023, continues to push the boundaries of modern audio solutions.
The company has maintained the same maximum repairability and modular design but installed new 40mm drivers, enhancing the sound quality significantly. As these are modular headphones, the original model can be upgraded with these new drivers yourself. However, the total cost for this upgrade comes to 100 EUR ($107). A slight design refresh includes IP54 protection, with the battery life remaining consistent at around 30 hours. Active noise cancellation is also present in this iteration.
The company emphasizes a high proportion of materials sourced from recycling. Codec support includes SBC, AAC, and aptX HD. The price for the new headphones is set at 250 EUR ($267), as previously.
The launch of Fairbuds XL has been met with enthusiasm among consumers who value sustainability in technology. Industry experts have praised the model for its dedication to repairability, setting a standard for others to follow. Notably, these headphones are expected to appeal to environmentally conscious consumers who also value high-quality sound.
While no official announcements have been made regarding future upgrades or developments for the Fairbuds XL, the existing user-centric and eco-friendly approach continues to keep expectations high. It remains to be seen how competitors will react and if they’ll embrace similar principles.
