Elon Musk Highlights Energy as the Limiting Factor in AI Deployment

Elon Musk stated that the limiting factor for AI deployment is electricity: “It’s simple, yes, it’s energy. I mean, we see exponential growth in the production rates of AI chips, but the rates of electricity commissioning are negligible, at most 10-4% per year.” It is quite obvious that very soon, possibly even by the end of this year, we will produce more chips than we can power. Elon Musk

He added that the growth rates of the power sector in China are colossal: “Right now they are building nuclear power plants with a capacity of 100 gigawatts. In reality, solar power is the most important direction in China. In solar energy alone, China is capable of producing half of the electricity generated by the U.S. in a year. Solar energy is undeniably the largest energy source.

Image Grok. That is why in the coming years, SpaceX plans to launch AI satellites powered by solar energy, because space really is a source of immense energy, and then you won’t need to occupy land on Earth. There is so much space in space, and you can scale production up to hundreds of terawatts per year. Elon Musk

Recall, he said that there will be more robots than people, promising machines that would “satisfy all human needs.” He called to prepare for an “amazing abundance.” Elon Musk also asserted that by the end of 2026 AI will be smarter than a human, and in five years AI will be smarter than all of humanity. Artificial intelligence and robots will lead to an unprecedented economic boom, and sales of Tesla Optimus to ordinary people will begin in 2027. Meanwhile, the landing on Mars may take more time than initially anticipated. The billionaire stated the goal of his space company SpaceX.
