Iran remains without internet connection for over 12 hours. According to international monitoring service NetBlocks, internet activity in the country has dropped to about 1% of the usual level, indicating a large-scale and almost complete shutdown of the network at the national level.
Iran has been inaccessible for 12 hours, with the level of internet connectivity in the country reduced to about 1% of normal levels after authorities implemented a nationwide internet blockade to suppress mass protests and mute reports of regime brutality. However, NetBlocks notes that officials in Tehran did not announce any planned restrictions or technical works.
At the end of December, protests began in central Tehran by traders due to the sharp weakening of the Iranian rial. Students later joined them. There were also reports of an attack on an administrative building in the province of Fars.
