In China, engineers from the National University of Defense Technology have demonstrated a new maglev platform that accelerated from 0 to 700 km/h (435 mph) in just two seconds. The tests were conducted on a track approximately 400 meters (0.25 miles) long, and the platform, weighing about a ton, was able to not only achieve the required speed but also stop relatively safely. CCTV called the experiment a world record.
The exact acceleration technology remains undisclosed, but Chinese media note that this is the fastest maglev transport today. Developers hope their achievement will become the foundation for new passenger maglev systems and even pave the way for innovations in the aerospace industry.
