In China, the diesel version of the 212 T01 off-roader, often dubbed the “Chinese UAZ” due to its roots tracing back to the UAZ-469, has officially gone on sale. The new offering comes in a single configuration priced at 199,000 Yuan ($27,860). For purchasers, there is a trade-in program available offering a discount of 10,000 Yuan ($1,400).
Externally, the diesel 212 T01 mirrors the petrol version; however, it differentiates from the classic “212” with its new front bumper, revised hood, enlarged air intakes, and expanded grille. A winch is available as an option. The off-road capabilities are impressive: approach angle – 43°, departure angle – 36°, clearance – 256 mm (about 10 inches), and the depth of the ford it can tackle is 850 mm (33.5 inches) (up to 910 mm with a snorkel installed).
The interior is executed in a utilitarian style with an emphasis on practicality. The vehicle is equipped with a 10.25-inch digital instrument panel and a 12.3-inch media system display. The base configuration includes front and rear parking sensors, as well as a 360-degree camera system. Despite the advanced technology, the SUV retains physical buttons for climate and off-road mode controls.
One of the key features of the new model is its 2.0-liter turbo diesel engine, producing 170 hp and 415 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission and a BorgWarner transfer case. By using a Bosch fuel system with a pressure of 2000 bar, an average consumption of 8.5 liters per 100 km was achieved. With an 80-liter tank, the range approaches 1000 km.

The SUV is equipped with front and rear five-link suspension and an intelligent connectable all-wheel drive with 2H, 4H, and 4L modes. It is officially presented in Russia as the BAW 212 (in China, the 212 was allocated to a separate brand), with prices ranging from 3.8 to 4.65 million rubles.
