ByteDance’s Billion-Dollar Bet on AI Chips: Nvidia on the Horizon

The company ByteDance plans to spend about 100 billion yuan ($14.29 billion) on artificial intelligence chips from Nvidia in 2026. This is the amount the company intends to invest in acquiring Nvidia processors if the American company is allowed to sell its H200 graphics processors in China, as reported by the South China Morning Post. Meanwhile, in 2025, ByteDance spent on the purchase of graphics processors 85 billion yuan, equivalent to approximately $12 billion based on current conversion rates. Photo: Nvidia

ByteDance, the owner of TikTok, uses Nvidia chips as a key resource for the development of its AI technologies and the maintenance of global platforms. The chips are necessary for the development and improvement of the company’s own neural networks, such as Doubao, which is one of the most popular chatbots in China. Moreover, Nvidia’s capabilities ensure the operation of personalized feeds on TikTok and Douyin, analyzing the preferences of billions of users in real-time.

Recent advancements in AI chip technology highlight Nvidia’s prominence in the market. The new H200 processors promise enhanced computational capabilities, contributing to the increased efficiency of AI workloads. Nvidia’s market influence continues to grow as the demand for more powerful AI infrastructures rises across industries. Analysts suggest that such investments could further solidify ByteDance’s position in the tech industry, especially considering the increasing competitiveness of AI-driven platforms. The strategic focus on Nvidia’s hardware underscores a wider trend within tech giants investing heavily in AI to gain competitive advantages and innovate at scale.
