BYD’s Song Plus Steps Down as Sea Lion 06 Takes the Spotlight

The BYD company has officially ceased sales of the Song Plus model, which had become a true bestseller in its time. The car is no longer available through official sales channels, with its place in the brand’s lineup taken by the Sea Lion 06.

The history of the Song Plus began in September 2020 with the gasoline version, and in 2021, the Song Plus DM-i hybrid version with the BYD DM-i Super Hybrid system was introduced. The model quickly gained popularity: the sales peak was in November 2022 when 63,636 Song Plus were sold. The crossover became a real sales king.

With the simplification of the Dynasty and Ocean product lines, the Song Plus gradually lost ground. In November 2025, the model’s sales stood at 7,871 units, ranking 11th among BYD models. At the same time, the Sea Lion 06 already held 2nd place with sales of 25,093 units.

Recent data indicates that the Sea Lion 06 has continued its strong performance, remaining a top choice among consumers. Market specialists have noted that BYD’s strategy of focusing on electric and hybrid vehicles aligns well with the growing global demand for sustainable mobility solutions. The termination of the Song Plus is seen as a move that could consolidate BYD’s market position even further.

Industry insiders highlight that BYD’s move to prioritize the Sea Lion 06 echoes broader trends in China’s automotive sector, where there’s an aggressive pivot towards more eco-friendly and technologically advanced vehicles. This shift is expected to intensify competition among global brands aiming to capture market share in this lucrative segment.
