BYD is set to officially unveil its largest SUV yet – the Datang (which translates to “Big Tang”). This new information was recently featured in the latest catalog from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). The vehicle is poised to lead the flagship ninth lineup of the Dynasty series and will hit the market within the first half of this year. Expectations are that the new release will exceed 400,000 Yuan, translating to approximately $57,500, while the new Li Auto L9 Livis is still set to retain a higher price point.
The exterior of the Datang significantly deviates from the familiar Tang crossover style. Designers have embraced a fresh aesthetic with a closed front grille and a “Tang” logo styled in ancient calligraphy, emphasizing the model’s prestige. Additional features include multi-spoke wheels and semi-hidden door handles, showcasing a sleek, contemporary design aligned with current market trends emphasizing understated elegance and advanced aerodynamics.
The Datang is indeed a large vehicle, comparable to full-sized SUVs. Its dimensions measure 5302 x 1999 x 3130 mm, with a wheelbase of 3245 mm. Registration data confirms the SUV is equipped with a powerful in-house electric motor (model TZ205QYD) from BYD, capable of delivering a maximum power of 408 hp. Judging by its mass (3245 kg) and dimensions, the vehicle is likely to offer a very spacious interior (probably with 6- or 7-seat configurations) and a rich set of features, catering to luxury and technology-focused consumers.
