BMW X4 Bids Farewell, Makes Way for an Electrifying Future

BMW Officially Ends Production of the X4

BMW has confirmed the official discontinuation of the BMW X4 crossover. The brand representative, Florian Moser, mentioned in a statement to BMWBlog that the last unit of the X4 was assembled in November 2025. The G02 generation has effectively concluded its life cycle.

Currently, the BMW X4 has been removed from the official US website. In some countries, the model still appears in configurators, but custom orders are no longer possible. However, dealers might still have limited stock available.

Transitioning to a New Era

Signs of moving away from the X4 surfaced earlier. The new second-generation BMW X2 (U10) has grown in size, initially indicating a lack of plans to produce a third-generation X4. Despite the X2 being built on a front-wheel-drive platform, it appears BMW believes that chassis architecture is not a crucial factor for most buyers in this segment.

Interestingly, the X4 name will not vanish entirely. According to BMWBlog, the automaker might resurrect the model as the all-electric iX4. Previous spy photos have shown a crossover prototype with BMW’s new design, significantly larger than the iX2. The upcoming electric model with the internal code NA7 will feature a streamlined fastback body and is expected to be officially unveiled by the end of the year. Mass production is planned to begin in November at BMW’s new factory in Debrecen, Hungary, where the second generation iX3 will also be produced.

Future at Spartanburg and Beyond

The phasing out of the X4 will also free up capacity at BMW’s Spartanburg plant in the US. The company plans to produce at least six new-generation electric crossovers there by 2030. Unofficial information suggests these might include models like the iX5, iX6, and iX7, along with a more utilitarian SUV with the code designation G74.

Decline of Other Models

BMW is also gradually discontinuing other models. The XM crossover, despite low demand, is expected to be produced until the end of 2028 but is unlikely to have a successor. Other models facing potential closure include the BMW iX, 2 Series Gran Tourer, Z4, and 8 Series.
