BMW and Momenta Drive Forward in China’s Electric Horizon

Momenta and BMW announced the completion of the development of a new intelligent driver assistance system, designed specifically for the Chinese market. The first model to receive this system will be the next generation of the BMW iX3 electric crossover, which will be produced at the BMW Brilliance plant in Shenyang.

The combined teams of companies are already conducting field tests at four major sites – in Beijing, Shanghai, Shenyang, and Nanjing. Momenta’s platform is built on the ‘perception–planning–control’ principle and uses a unified neural model that analyzes the situation, plots a route, and controls the vehicle, aiming to mimic the behavior of experienced drivers in complex road conditions.

These technologies will form the basis for several future BMW models, including the all-new iX3. Mass production of the electro-crossover will start in 2026, and the same year it will enter the global market.

BMW’s strategic expansion into electric vehicles in China resonates with the national agenda for greener transportation solutions. By joining forces with pioneering companies like Momenta, BMW demonstrates a solid commitment to innovation tailored to local needs.

Momenta continues to make strides in AI technology that enhances the capability of autonomous vehicles, addressing the nuanced challenges of urban environments prevalent in Chinese cities.
