Bentley has taken a bold step in redefining luxury off-road vehicles by unveiling the Bentayga X concept, a radical version of their luxury crossover designed for serious off-road adventures. Built on the powerful Bentayga Speed platform, this venture aims to tap into the “overlanding” market among affluent clients.
Unlike many design projects, the changes in the Bentayga X are practical in nature. The vehicle’s ground clearance has been increased by 55 mm, and the track has been widened by 120 mm. It boasts 22-inch forged wheels with massive mud tires and expanded wheel arches, giving it a robust and ready-for-anything appearance. The water wading depth exceeds half a meter, enhancing its off-road credentials. On the roof, additional floodlights and an expedition luggage rack secure a compact electric kart for ice racing adventures.
Under the hood lies a 4.0-liter V8 engine generating 641 hp (650 Nm), complemented by a titanium sports exhaust system. The air suspension and active anti-roll system remain intact, ensuring the vehicle’s hallmark luxury ride quality is not compromised.
The public debut of the concept is set for the FAT Ice Race festival in Austria. Bentley openly admits the project was created to gather feedback from potential buyers. With the growing demand for extreme versions of premium SUVs, experts believe the Bentayga X has a strong chance of moving into series production.
The overlanding vehicle market, estimated at $1.1 billion in recent years, shows a steady annual growth of 7%. Luxury crossovers like the Bentayga X are particularly appealing, blending opulence with rugged adventure capabilities. This trend is reshaping manufacturers’ strategies in addressing the needs of modern luxury consumers.
The introduction of the Bentayga X concept may also signal Bentley’s broader commitment to exploring niche markets and staying competitive amidst evolving consumer preferences. Continual innovation in vehicle customization is a major factor driving market excitement and consumer engagement.
