Audio-Technica Unveils Enhanced AT-LP7X Turntable at CES 2026: Sound Innovation or Just Static?

Audio-Technica announced at CES 2026 a new version of its popular AT-LP7 vinyl turntable – the AT-LP7X. The original AT-LP7, released in 2019, received high acclaim from experts and was often recommended on audio forums.

The novelty has retained the minimalist design and matte black finish. The AT-LP7X is a fully manual turntable with a belt drive, focused on basic functions without unnecessary additions. Equipped with a J-shaped aluminum tonearm, whose design is inspired by classic Audio-Technica models of the 60s and 70s, this turntable stands out.

The tonearm features a two-axis gimbal and precision bearings for smooth and stable movement. The package includes the AT-VM95E cartridge on the AT-LT10 headshell, providing quality channel separation and low distortion. The needle can be replaced with any model from the VM95 series.

Audio-Technica AT-LP7X includes a built-in switchable phono preamp for MM and MC cartridges. Adjustments to vertical tracking angle (VTA), anti-skating, and an additional counterweight allow the use of a wide range of cartridges and headshells. The package comes with a 16 g counterweight, while a separately available 32 g counterweight supports cartridge/headshell combinations weighing up to 28.5 g.

The player supports speeds of 33 and 45 rpm but does not support 78 rpm. An optical speed sensor and vibration-damping motor mount ensure high rotational accuracy. The design includes spring-loaded vibration-isolating feet and an external power supply to reduce unwanted noise.

The plinth is made of 40 mm MDF, and the 20 mm acrylic platter reduces resonances. Audio-Technica AT-LP7X is available for purchase at a retail price starting at $920.

Recent advancements in materials, such as carbon fiber for tonearms, and digital integration with Bluetooth capabilities were not part of the AT-LP7X design, underscoring its commitment to traditional analog sound quality.
