Asus Unveils RTX 5060 Graphics Cards with a Classic Twist

Asus has announced its latest addition to the GeForce RTX 50 series, choosing to go retro with the reliable 8-pin power connectors. The EVO models stand out due to their simplistic design, no-frills cooling system, and the absence of the 16-pin power connector, which has caused concern among some users due to potential overheating issues.

The lineup includes two RTX 5060 EVO cards (one with overclocking and one without) and two RTX 5060 Ti EVO cards (also with and without overclocking). All the new models are visually identical, featuring compact printed circuit boards and a half-width PCIe 5.0 slot. Additionally, all models require only two expansion slots. Recent reports highlight no significant incidents involving overheating in the RTX 5060 class due to 16-pin connectors, yet some users may find peace of mind with the 8-pin setup. Interestingly, Asus maintains a range of models in this class with the 8-pin configuration, opting for the 16-pin connection only for top-tier versions.

The continued use of the 8-pin connector has been praised for its reliability and ease of installation, making it particularly popular among traditional users who prefer tried-and-tested technology over new, sometimes problematic introductions. On the technological front, the integration of PCIe 5.0 ensures that these cards are forward-compatible, providing potential for better performance and faster data transfer as more hardware specs advance to fully utilize this interface.
