Asus Rethinks Innovation: The Return of the Mechanical Lever at CES 2026

The company Asus unveiled new Neo motherboards for AMD AM5 processors at CES 2026, where, among other things, PCIe slots with the Q-Release Slim system are missing. Now the company has explained why it abandoned it, although it only recently appeared on the market. Asus says it abandoned this system, which allows you to easily remove the video card from the slot, because it confused users, not because there were cases of damage to the contact pads on 3D cards.

At the previous generation, we had a Q-Release Slim system without any buttons. Some users were embarrassed by this, and some wanted the return of the old design with a physical mechanism. Therefore, we decided to use it again.

In the new boards, Asus reverted to a mechanical lever that needs to be lowered to release the video card from the slot. It is placed above the slot, so there should be no particular problems with accessibility.

Impact on Consumers

The decision to revert to a mechanical lever system might be seen as a move to prioritize user familiarity and reliability. Consumers, who were confused by the Q-Release Slim, may appreciate the more straightforward approach. However, tech enthusiasts and early adopters might view it as a step back in innovation, potentially affecting Asus’s market perception.

Additional Announcements at CES 2026

In addition to the changes in the motherboard design, Asus showcased new features like AI-driven fan control and enhanced thermal management. These innovations aim to provide improved system stability and efficiency, attracting those interested in better performance configurations.
