On January 17, at 6:42 PM Eastern Time, NASA’s Space Launch System (SLS) for the Artemis II mission, along with the Orion spacecraft, reached Launch Pad 39B at Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The transportation from the Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB) took nearly 12 hours. The Crawler-Transporter 2 began its 4-mile (6.4 km) journey with the integrated SLS and Orion on top, early in the morning. Moving at a maximum speed of 0.8 mph (1.3 km/h), it delivered the rocket and spacecraft to the launch pad.
After exiting the assembly building, a scheduled stop was made to reposition the Crew Access Arm-a structure that provides astronaut and support crew access to Orion on launch day.
