Apple Peeks Over Oppo’s Shoulder in Foldable Smartphone Race

Apple, in the throes of creating its first foldable smartphone, has turned its investigative gaze towards a rival’s device. The competitor in question is Oppo with their Find N5 model. According to the insider Fixed Focus Digital, Apple was intrigued by the screen fold, which was notably subtle in Oppo’s flagship device. Reports from sources close to Apple reveal that the company purchased and disassembled a foldable Oppo Find N5 for research purposes. Apple fabricated numerous internal models and discovered that the smoothness of the Find N5’s fold is challenging to surpass.

Commenting on his own disclosure, the insider mentioned that claims about a completely crease-free iPhone are utter nonsense, and it may struggle to match even the N5. Various sources have suggested that the foldable iPhone was supposed to feature an uncreased screen. While such book-style smartphones are currently unavailable in the market, a clamshell model once boasted a crease-free screen – the first version of Moto Razr. However, due to design peculiarities that allowed such a screen, this solution was eventually discarded.

Latest Trends in Foldable Technology

In recent times, foldable smartphones have seen significant advancements with manufacturers focusing on minimizing screen creases and enhancing durability. Companies like Samsung and Huawei have pushed for improved hinge mechanisms proving crucial in this technology. However, with Apple potentially entering the fray, the dynamics of the industry could witness substantial shifts.

Competitive Landscape and Apple’s Challenges

Apple’s entry into the foldable market could reinterpret the competitive strategies of existing players. They’d have to consider Apple’s strong brand reputation and vast resource pool, factors that could propel Apple’s offering to a competitive edge despite entry challenges. Oppo’s advanced design, characterized by the Find N5’s refined crease, sets a benchmark Apple may find tough to meet.
