AMD’s Upcoming Ryzen AI Max 500: A Glimpse into the Future

AMD has not yet released the Ryzen AI Max 400 processors, but technically, they will mimic the Ryzen AI Max 300. However, the Ryzen AI Max 500 of the Medusa Halo line will be entirely new. These models will offer support for faster memory, reportedly including LPDDR6. While support for LPDDR5 is likely to remain, memory frequency is crucial for the integrated GPU in an APU, and this new compatibility will provide a significant boost in itself.

For example, using LPDDR6-14400 memory with the same 256-bit bus, bandwidth will increase by almost 80% to 461 GB/s. However, considering the memory market situation, many PC manufacturers might opt for LPDDR5X to save costs.

Let’s recall that the Ryzen AI 500 series is rumored to boast up to 24 Zen 6 processing cores and an iGPU based on RDNA 5 architecture. These should be significantly faster than the Ryzen AI 300/400 models. However, their release is not expected until 2027.
