The recent Computex 2025 event saw AMD commit to providing tech reviewers with ample samples of the Radeon RX 9060 XT. This came after Nvidia faced backlash for limiting reviews of its GeForce RTX 5060 Ti 8GB. Despite AMD’s assurances, the actual distribution of 8GB samples seems to have been flawed, raising questions about their intent.
Only a couple of reviews for the 8GB version of the Radeon RX 9060 XT have appeared online, and they’re primarily in Spanish and Chinese, hardly in major publications. Most reviews focus on the 16GB variant, leading to speculation about AMD’s strategic choices.
Popular YouTube channel Linus Tech Tips revealed AMD’s reasoning. According to an official correspondence shared by the channel, AMD prioritizes regional demand for distributing 8GB graphics card samples. They emphasize a commitment to transparent, independent reviews.
“We at AMD are committed to supporting independent reviews to help consumers make informed choices. Regarding the 8GB model, our approach reflects regional demand,” stated AMD in their letter.
Despite AMD’s justification, speculation suggests that their decision was influenced by the diminishing demand for 8GB gaming cards, which are increasingly regarded as outdated. This aligns with recent independent reviews criticizing Nvidia’s similar offerings. Notably, AMD is not facing a supply shortage, as multiple versions of the Radeon RX 9060 XT are being reviewed.
This situation sheds light on AMD’s strategic decision-making and raises questions about the transparency in their review distribution process.
