Acemagic has unveiled the Retro X3 mini-PC, capturing the essence of classic gaming consoles like the NES while incorporating modern features.
Similar in appearance to the Retro X5, the Retro X3 leverages an older processor model, the Ryzen 7 H 255, identified as part of the Ryzen 80000H series under a new name. It maintains eight Zen 4 cores and integrates an iGPU Radeon 780M. This technical setup mirrors advancements seen in recent mini-PC releases, showcasing enhanced connectivity and efficiency.
The barebone kit is priced around $275, offering a cost-effective solution compared to other models with similar specifications.
The design allows users easy access to its internals, facilitating straightforward SSD and RAM installations or upgrades. Dual slots are provided for storages. Other features include Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, a 2.5GbE RJ45 port, six USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports, HDMI, DisplayPort, and a USB4 interface.
Current advancements in mini-PCs emphasize features like the cutting-edge Wi-Fi 6E connectivity, which is not yet a standard on the Retro X3, highlighting significant strides in connectivity options. Moreover, certain models are now equipped with advanced cooling systems to address overheating, a persistent issue in compact designs.
Consumer interest in nostalgia-driven designs is trending, influencing buying behaviors in the technology sphere. Such designs not only evoke sentimental value but also draw young tech enthusiasts interested in retro aesthetics coupled with modern functionality. Retro X3 caters to this niche market, embodying a blend of classic charm with efficiency.
Compared to mini-PCs from major brands, the Retro X3 positions itself as a budget-friendly alternative without compromising on essential features. Its retro design gives it a unique selling point, distinguishing it in a crowded market primarily led by aesthetics and performance parity with products priced significantly higher.
