SanDisk has officially launched its range of solid-state drives under the new Optimus brand in the US market, replacing the SSD lines of WD Black and WD Blue. The flagship series to hit the shelves first is the Optimus GX Pro 8100, a successor to the popular WD Black SN8100.
Prices are substantial. On SanDisk’s official website, the 1TB version starts at $460, the 2TB version is $920, and the 4TB version is priced at $1800. On Amazon, the prices are even higher due to retailer markups, with the 1TB version costing $500.
The series Optimus, technically, is no different from its predecessors under the WD brand-performance and hardware components remain the same. However, the ‘outdated’ WD Black SN8100 models are 30–34% cheaper than their new counterparts in the Optimus series, despite having the same operation speed.
