The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People’s Republic of China (MIIT) has unveiled the first images of the new Geely Monjaro variant featuring a traditional hybrid system. Externally, the car barely differs from the current Xingyue L, sold locally, and it lacks any distinctive hybrid badges, making it virtually indistinguishable among standard models.
Technically, the Monjaro is equipped with a hybrid setup based on a 1.5-liter turbo engine producing 163 hp, apparently working alongside a 156 hp electric motor. This setup allows for reduced fuel consumption and maintains dynamic performance without requiring external charging, as the battery has a low capacity and charges from the engine’s operation.
It remains unknown when Geely plans to introduce the Monjaro hybrid to the Chinese market and other countries. However, the Monjaro’s introduction may point to Geely’s strategic ambitions to capture a substantial stake in the global hybrid vehicle market, where competitors like Toyota and Honda currently have a solid foothold. Geely’s hybrid design signifies a move towards integrating sustainable technology without compromising on the performance-a trend increasingly embraced by automotive manufacturers globally.
