Asus has introduced a robust enclosure for creating an external SSD, known as the ROG Strix Aiolos. This model supports M.2 drives of 2242/2260/2280 formats. The enclosure itself isn’t the most compact in the market, measuring at 116 x 46 x 15 mm with a weight of 139 g. However, Asus boasts a high level of protection. The enclosure is covered with rubber, making drops a minor concern.

The ROG Strix Aiolos comes equipped with a reliable dual-layer cooling system, enabling maximum performance under intense loads. An internal high-efficiency thermal pad helps dissipate heat from the SSD, maintaining low temperatures during high workloads and preventing overheating for prolonged use. It is complemented by a thermally resistant coating made from liquid silicone rubber applied via injection molding. This coating offers a durable protective layer against dust and stains while keeping the device cool to touch even during extended usage.

Despite lacking Thunderbolt 5 or USB4, the ROG Strix Aiolos uses USB-C 3.2 Gen 2, permitting speeds up to 20 Gbit/s. Although this may not reach the maximum possible from some SSDs, it suffices for many users. Additionally, there is a customizable RGB LED strip, adding a touch of personalization.
