Windows 11 Explorer Welcomes Copilot: The AI Push Continues

Microsoft continues to introduce new AI features into Windows 11, with the latest integration being within File Explorer. In the preliminary build of Windows 11 Build 26220.7523, a button to launch the Copilot assistant was discovered directly in the Explorer. Previously, Microsoft had already added Copilot to Explorer, but only through the context menu that appears on a file. This option, labeled ‘Ask Copilot,’ sends a file or image to Copilot.

The new implementation will be entirely different. In this case, a sidebar with the chat-bot opens directly in the Explorer. Currently, a hidden button next to the ‘Details’ pane serves this function. Although it’s not very clear yet why Copilot in Explorer is needed, judging by this decision, Microsoft wants it to be accessible from anywhere in Windows 11.

This integration might significantly enhance user experience by providing quick AI-driven assistance directly within the file management interface. Such features can streamline user workflow by offering intelligent suggestions, search capabilities, and even performing complex tasks like sorting and managing files with ease. Competitors like Apple and Google are also exploring AI incorporation within their operating systems, aiming to push seamless user interaction boundaries. As these tech giants continue competing, we may see further advancements that could revolutionize the way users interact with their devices.
