The updated Lexus IS sedan for the 2026 model year is preparing to enter U.S. dealerships. The car, which debuted in Japan in September, has undergone its third restyling since its inception in 2013-this premium sedan features a refreshed exterior, a significantly reworked interior, and a revised engine lineup.
The main news is the radical reduction in the engine lineup. Lexus has removed both the base versions equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder (IS 300) and the top-end V8 (IS 500) from sale. Now, all modifications are equipped with an unaltered 3.5-liter naturally aspirated V6 producing 314 hp. This change has led to a sharp increase in the starting price, with the entry ticket to the IS owner’s club rising by nearly $5,000 to $46,795. The base version of the car is now denoted IS 350.
The car has received a more aggressive front bumper, an updated grille, and new air intakes. Inside the cabin, a 12.3-inch touchscreen, physical climate control switches, and supercar-style GR GT vents have been introduced. The safety system suite has also been updated to Lexus Safety System+ 3.0.
Engineers have also improved the chassis: both the suspension and steering have been retuned. The first 350 buyers will have the opportunity to purchase an exclusive version of the Special Appearance Package in matte Hakugin White with black forged BBS wheels. Sales will begin in early 2026.
Lexus made these changes amidst global trends pointing towards streamlined offerings. By focusing on a single engine variant, Lexus may aim to streamline production and focus on quality and performance, tapping into consumers’ preferences towards reliable and efficient engine choices over variety. Interestingly, this comes at a time when new car buyers are particularly sensitive to pricing dynamics influenced by economic factors such as inflation and rising production costs.
