iFixit has unveiled FixBot, an AI-driven application designed to assist not only in smartphone repairs but much more. As stated in the press release, this calm, knowledgeable expert helps identify specific problems and guides you step-by-step to fix them. Describe your issue with voice or text, and it will do what a good expert does: ask the right questions, narrow down possible causes, and guide you to a resolution.

The app recognizes voice commands and can also respond vocally, which is useful when your hands are occupied repairing something. Unlike the standard AI tools you’ve tried, FixBot genuinely knows what it’s talking about. It draws answers from our 125,000 repair guides, massive Q&A forum, and extensive PDF manual database. It knows how to find the perfect bolt tension moment from a guide table, can read a part schematic, and tell you the part number you need to order.
Importantly, it significantly outperforms other systems in terms of not making up information. It won’t tell you to cut the blue wire if there isn’t one.
While iFixit became known for checking smartphone repairability, their guides cover far more than just these devices. The site includes guides for home appliances, various electronics, medical equipment, and even vehicles. All of this is now available in FixBot. The app is available on Android and iOS for free.
New Features and Enhancements
Recently, FixBot expanded its capabilities to include a wider range of household electronics and appliances. Users can now get detailed repair instructions for kitchen appliances and DIY tips for maintaining their gadgets in peak condition. This expansion aligns with iFixit’s mission to empower consumers to fix their things, making sustainability more accessible.
Expert Opinions
Initial reviews from tech enthusiasts and repair professionals highlight FixBot’s user-friendly interface and comprehensive repair guides. While the app excels at guiding users through complex repairs, some suggest that it could further enhance its AI accuracy with larger datasets on newer or less common devices. Overall, the app has been praised for its innovative approach and ease of integration with iFixit’s existing resources.
