Huawei unveiled several smartphones today, with some models featuring the new Kirin 9030 SoC. The company boasts a 42% performance increase with this chipset. However, it made its debut in benchmarks with rather underwhelming results.
The Kirin 9030 is peculiar with its nine-core processor in a 1+4+4 configuration, clocked up to 2.75 GHz-an average spec by today’s standards. Recent benchmarks show it scoring 1131 and 4277 points, which is almost on par with the Kirin 9020. A test might have been conducted on a smartphone with non-final firmware, suggesting we wait for devices to hit the market. Otherwise, expectations of a 42% leap may be unrealistic.
This lukewarm performance places Huawei in a challenging position against rivals like Apple and Samsung, particularly if Kirin 9030’s claims aren’t substantiated by user experiences or further testing. Enhanced AI capabilities or battery optimizations have not been highlighted, leaving uncertainty over Huawei’s edge in these areas. Whether its architecture significantly advances Huawei’s smartphone lineup remains unseen, especially concerning potential 5G improvements or AI enhancements.
