BYD continues its rapid expansion in Europe: starting January 2026, the Sealion 5 DM-i crossover will debut in the United Kingdom. This marks the ninth model from the brand in less than three years-another step towards strengthening its position in the mass market segment. The Sealion 5 DM-i will feature a hybrid system including a 1.5-liter gasoline engine and an electric motor. The combined output will reach 194 hp, with a torque of 300 Nm. The estimated acceleration to 100 km/h is about 8.3 seconds.
The battery, with a capacity of 12.96 kWh, will allow up to 71 km (WLTP) on electric drive, with a total range reaching 1000 km. Inside, a signature rotating display and Vehicle to Load support for powering external devices will be featured. The vehicle will compete in the mid-size SUV segment alongside the Kia Sportage, Hyundai Tucson, and Nissan Qashqai.
In recent developments, the electric and hybrid vehicle market in Europe has seen significant growth, with increasing consumer interest driven by environmental concerns and government incentives. The BYD Sealion 5 DM-i is set to attract eco-conscious drivers looking for a blend of performance and efficiency, as it balances traditional and electric power.
Additionally, feedback from industry experts highlights the importance of such hybrids in bridging the gap for consumers transitioning from traditional to fully electric vehicles. “The Sealion 5 DM-i provides an impressive mix of technology and usability, putting it in a strong position against its competitors,” opines an automotive analyst.
Looking ahead, BYD plans to introduce more models enhancing its electric lineup, aligning with Europe’s push for greener technologies by 2030. The Sealion 5 DM-i promises to be a formidable player in the changing landscape of European mobility.
