Nvidia Grabs 92% of Discrete GPU Market in Early 2025

Nvidia Dominates Discrete GPU Market in Early 2025, Reports Show

Nvidia has secured a remarkable 92% share in the discrete GPU market for Q1 2025, according to Jon Peddie Research. This marks a significant rise from its 84% stake in late 2024, highlighting the company’s growing dominance. Meanwhile, Intel remains the leader in the overall GPU market thanks to its integrated graphics solutions.

Nvidia GPUs on the rise

GPU Market Shifts

In the first quarter of 2025, a total of 9.2 million discrete GPUs were shipped, representing a robust industry segment despite the overall decline. This period saw Nvidia solidifying its position while AMD’s market share fell from 15% to 8%, and Intel’s negligible presence in the discrete category officially hitting zero.

Integrated GPU Leadership

Even as discrete GPU shipments face challenges, Intel leads the combined GPU market with a commanding 63% share, attributable to its integrated graphics in desktop and laptop processors. Nvidia’s aggressive push in discrete graphics, notably through its Blackwell series, has helped it increase its slice from 16% to 20%, while AMD holds a 17% share.

Overall Market Contraction

The demand for discrete graphics cards dropped by 16% quarter-over-quarter in Q1 2025, while integrated solutions saw a 10% decrease, leading to a total market decline of 12%. Such downturns are typical for the first quarter, reflecting seasonal buying patterns.

Future Outlook

Despite current declines, Jon Peddie Research forecasts that the discrete GPU market might see an annual growth contraction of 10.3% until 2028, projecting a global use of 130 million GPUs by the end of the forecast period. Discrete graphics are expected to maintain an 86% penetration in desktop PCs over the next five years.
